Together with Women’s Bureau of Sri Lanka and the Ministry of Women and Child Affairs, David Pieris Group recently launched its seventh award winning Women Empowerment programme in Kurunegala, with an opening ceremony at Hotel Blue Sky Kurunegala which saw the participation of 40 women from the region. ‘Empowering Women through Technical Training’ was initiated with the ultimate goal for creating well trained and certified women mechanics. It is the first of its kind in Sri Lanka, as it is the only women mechanic based technical programme thus far in the country. The programme which commenced in Bandaragama, has been successfully conducted in Polonnaruwa, Kilinochchi (covering Jaffna, Mulaitivu, Mannar and Vavuniya), Anuradhapura, Monaragala and Matara to date.
