David Pieris Group crowned Mercantile Cricket ‘C’ Division Champions 2025

David Pieris Group Cricket Team A emerged as champions of the Mercantile ‘C’ Division Championship 2025, clinching the prestigious title in the finals held yesterday (31) at the Mercantile Cricket Association Ground, Colombo.

In the decisive encounter, David Pieris Group faced Teejay Lanka and secured a resounding 90-run victory. Batting first, the team posted a competitive total of 202 runs before bowling out Teejay Lanka for just 112 runs.

Throughout the tournament, David Pieris Group showcased consistency and dominance, finishing at the top of the league table with six wins out of seven matches. Their campaign included notable victories against Teejay Lanka by 67 runs, Sampath Bank by five wickets, Commercial Bank by 141 runs, MAS Bodyline by 121 runs and LOLC Holdings by three wickets. The team’s crowning moment came in the final, once again defeating Teejay Lanka, this time by 90 runs. Their only defeat in the series was against MAS Intimates, where they lost by 23 runs.

Several players delivered exceptional individual performances during the tournament. Asitha Wanninayake was recognised as both the Best Batsman and Best Allrounder of the tournament, while Lakshan de Silva was named Best Bowler.

In the final, Shehan Hasaranga’s brilliant spell of five wickets earned him the Man of the Match award. Adding to the batting strength, Tharindu Amarasinghe contributed 39 runs and Captain Manjula Gannile scored 32 runs to guide the team to a defendable total.

The victorious squad comprised Manjula Gannile (Captain), Akila Elabodage, Lakshan de Silva, Tharindu Amarasinghe, Nirmala Rathnayake, Sasindu Malshan (Wk), Shehan Hasaranga, Ravindu Sembukutty, Asitha Wanninayake, Udara Bandara, Himasha Piyushan, Mayura Dilhan, Shehan Rathnayake, Vihara Aththanayake, Buddika Perera, Prasad Niroshan and Dilshan Dissanayake.
