David Pieris Group emerged Runner-Up in the D Division at the recently held, 46th annual 7-a-side Hockey Tournament organised by the Mercantile Hockey Association.

The D Division, where six competitive teams vied for the Edmund J. Cooray Trophy, saw participation from teams representing Ceylon Tobacco Co. Ltd, Hemas Group, Airport Aviation, Inqube Solutions (Pvt) Ltd, Future Life Investment Ltd, and David Pieris Group.

David Pieris Group began its winning journey, defeating Ceylon Tobacco Co. with an impressive score of 6-1 in their opening match. Building on this momentum, they secured another decisive victory, beating Inqube Solutions 3-0. These performances ensured their place in the semifinals.

In the semifinal round, David Pieris Group maintained their winning streak with a commanding 3-0 victory over Future Life Investment Ltd, earning them a spot in the finals against the Hemas Group.

The final match proved to be a closely fought battle. Both teams displayed exceptional skill and determination, ending regular play with a 1-1 draw. To decide the winner, the organisers moved to a penalty stroke session. After an intense showdown, Hemas Group clinched the win, leaving David Pieris Group with the Runner-Up title.

David Pieris Group’s performance throughout the tournament was commendable, showcasing their team’s skill, teamwork and competitive spirit.
